DISTINGUISHED PSYCHOLOGIST AWARD RECIPIENTS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO PSYCHOLOGY AND PSYCHOTHERAPY:

This award was established in 1970 as the Distinguished Professional Award in Psychology and Psychotherapy.  At the Mid Winter meeting in 1984, the BOD changed its name to Distinguished Psychologist Award for Contributions to Psychology and Psychotherapy

Criteria have been loosely defined to date, and should remain flexible in order to embrace the breadth of contributions that psychologist/psychotherapists make which distinguish them from their peers.  However, to provide some consistency, it is recommended that the following aspects of each candidate be considered in this order:
a) Length of time of service to psychotherapy;
b) Membership in the Division;
c) Significance of contributions to the practice, research, and/or training in psychotherapy; and
d) Significance of contributions to the Division.

As an overarching aspect, it was recommended that the committee make sure the deliberations take into account appropriate representation of women and minority candidates.
