Christopher E. Overtree, Ph.D.
It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the Division of Psychotherapy’s new Internet Editor. It was an honor to be nominated and a delight to meet (by phone and email) my new colleagues in Division governance. I want to thank everyone for their hospitality as I have begun this position and I look forward to meeting all of you in the near future.
Like many of us, my interest in technology began with the most basic in home computing, coupled with extensive experience in programming the VCR to record Miami Vice. But though I was always the consummate “early adopter” of new and experimental technology, I never did become a programmer per se. Rather, I sought to adopt technology that would expand my areas of practice and streamline my activities. As I have settled into my life as a professional psychologist (I still consider myself an “early career psychologist” and shared my experiences as a clinic director with you in the Bulletin last year), I have attempted to translate technology for use in novel and innovative ways. In joining you as Internet Editor, my goal is to highlight the talent and prestige of our Division, using technology as a vehicle to promote our mission and facilitate our professional interactions. We will be doing much more than just redesigning the website! We will seek to understand how best our Division can get web-based technology and other emerging trends (e.g. social networking) to work for us. I truly hope that you will all reach out to me with your suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you, whether it is to point out a spelling error on the website or to make a request for new features or content. And keep in mind that even things that seem like pie in the sky ideas may be revolutionary.
On a final note, I also must echo the numerous accolades that our members have directed towards our outgoing Interim Internet Editor, Abe Wolf. Abe has been our steward, keeping the website afloat during this rather long transition between editors. More important to me, he has been extremely gracious in allowing me to jump into this new role gradually so that my early confusion had time to resolve itself while he steered the ship. We all owe him a debt of gratitude! I truly look forward to hearing from you, and I suppose I would not be a true Internet Editor if I didn’t say that email is best (overtree+div29@gmail.com)!
Sincerely,
Christopher Overtree
